Phenolic resins as binders in coatings
The use of phenolic resins in coating formulations requires appropriate modification. Phenolic resins for coatings are mostly modified resols or phenol replaced by alkylphenol.
Phenolic resin coatings usually contain a binder, which may be the phenolic resin alone or a combination with other synthetic resins. The binder gives the film good mechanical properties and good chemical resistance. In addition to the binder, solvents, fillers and other additives such as accelerators, promoters for better flow and the like are present.
